UnCoat Lenses
UnCoat Lenses
Ophthalmic uncoated lenses are spectacle or optical lenses that do not have any additional surface treatments or coatings applied after manufacturing. These lenses are made from glass or plastic materials and simply polished to achieve clarity and smoothness.
Uncoated lenses tend to allow more reflection (approximately 8-12% of light) from their surfaces, which can cause glare, reduce visual comfort, and make the lenses appear more noticeable due to reflected light. They are also more prone to scratches and can be harder to keep clean compared to coated lenses, which may have scratch-resistant or anti-reflective layers. While uncoated lenses are less expensive, their reduced optical performance and durability make them less preferred in modern optical practice, where coated lenses are recommended for better vision and lens protection.
